Happy Silver Anniversary |
Agriculture Club Creates Ideal Learning Climate Since the start of Fall semester, PCC's Agriculture Club with their instructor/advisor Alex Gachalian has initiated a series of educational projects and community outreach programs to provide club members with critical experience in farming, team-building skills, and financial responsibility. The club maintains the college's mission of serving the community through outreach programs in the form of clean ups, vegetation/undergrowth cutting, and tree planting. The services performed by the club contribute greatly to the community and fulfill club goals of introducing its members to farming methods and creating a team-building environment. GCC President Meets with Tellei |
The President of Guam Community College (GCC) Mary Okada was in Palau last week to conduct a survey as part of her research work for her doctoral dissertation. While in Palau, Okada also had an opportunity to meet with top college officials last Friday to discuss regional issues and concerns related to member institutions of Pacific Postsecondary Educational Council (PPEC). Both PCC and GCC are members of PPEC. In her meeting with PCC President Dr. Patrick U. Tellei and Vice Presidents Jay Olegeriil and Thomas Taro, discussions focused on the US |
Defense Department's plan to relocate thousands of U.S. soldiers stationed in Okinawa, Japan to the island of Guam. Both presidents agreed that the move will bring with it a significant labor boom for Guam; and PCC, GCC and other PPEC institutions in the immediate Micronesian region should work together to prepare a qualified workforce in anticipation of the demand. Tellei and Okada agreed to continue the dialogue when they meet again later this fall in Saipan with other PPEC officials. |

EMS Club Marks Independence Day with
Campus Clean Up |
As part of the 14th Independence Day celebration, the PCC Environmental Club organized a trash-a-thon held right here on campus on October 3, 2008. The trash-a-thon began at 1pm. Club members and supporters were divided into three groups and assigned to different sites on campus. They were the Dormitory/Cafeteria, Upper Campus, and Lower Campus. The trash-a-thon ended at 3pm with 10 bags of trash collected from the school grounds. This was just one of the activities the Environmental Club held during this new school year. Anyone who wishes to join the club is welcome and will have the opportunity to join us in "stepping toward the future" while keeping our environment healthy and safe. Keep an eye out for club meeting announcements. |

According to maintenance staff Gaylord Rdechor and Dawckins Dingelius, the garbage truck which was donated to PCC earlier this month by Mr. Yuji Namakawa and the South Sea Community Association (SSCA) of Japan has indeed saved the school valuable time and money when it comes to the daily business of garbage collection and disposal. They say that the truck with its built-in compactor can haul all the schools refuse to the dump in one-go compared to the several trips they had to make with the flat-bed trucks, and that saves them valuable time and fuel. |
Rdechor also says that in the long run, they should realize a considerable reduction in maintenance cost for the maintenance department's flatbed trucks, especially in paint and body work, as they will no longer double as garbage trucks. The PCC garbage truck was one of four donated to Palau by Mr. Namekawa and the non-profit Japanese organization SSCA. Two were donated to the Ministry of Health and one went to the Ministry of Justice along with a 50 meter ladder fire-truck. |
